Crime Prevention - Keyless Vehicle Security

22nd of March, 2024

Do you own a keyless vehicle? If so your vehicle could be stolen using a relay attack, where thieves use a device to amplify the signal from the owner's key fob, even if it's inside their home, and trick the vehicle into thinking the fob is nearby. Once the signal is captured, it's relayed to another device held near the vehicle, allowing the thieves to unlock and start the vehicle. This process can be done quickly and silently, leaving little trace of the theft.

Crime prevention advice for keyless vehicle security:

1. Use Signal Blocking: Invest in a Faraday pouch or signal-blocking box to store your key fob when not in use. This prevents thieves from intercepting its signal.

2. Physical Barriers: Consider installing a steering wheel lock or a similar physical deterrent to make it harder for thieves to steal your vehicle, even if they clone the fob signal.

3. Secure Parking: Always park your car in well-lit areas or in a garage, if possible. This reduces the chances of theft and makes it harder for thieves to access your vehicle unnoticed.

4. Stay Alert: Be vigilant for any suspicious activity around your vehicle, such as individuals loitering nearby or using electronic devices. Report any unusual behaviour to the Police.

5. Stay Informed: Keep yourself updated about emerging security threats and techniques used by thieves. Watching informative videos, like the one provided, can help raise awareness and prompt you to take necessary precautions.

By following these tips and staying informed, you can better protect your keyless vehicle from potential theft and unauthorised access.
